Right now a good chunk of the country is reeling from the recent & obvious dismantling of rights and protections for the backbone of the nation. There are groups working hard to have you believe that your Hispanic neighbor, or trans student are the ones who are the problem. That your ambitious, career-minded wife, or the disabled gentleman up the road are somehow enabling the decay of our country. And it is simply not true.
The problem lies at the feet, as it always has, of a few hate-fueled and grossly wealthy white men. They have, and continue to, willfully take advantage of the working class. They rape the country of its natural resources to line their pockets with blood-soaked money without batting an eye. And they do it in the name of the people. Some of these sycophants haven't even been voted into a public-held office, and yet, they are wielding power and making changes to the very fabric of our country.
But they forgot a pretty important fact. One, I think, a lot of us forget when things turn to chaos and fear: we outnumber them.
We have to stand together and show them that we don't see colors or sex. We don't see religion or ideology. We see each other. Our neighbors, our co-workers, our shop keepers, our sisters, our brothers, our mothers, our fathers and our children. Now is the time for action. It's the time for organization. It's the time for us. There are numerous ways to get involved and stand in solidarity. Shop local businesses. Mom and Pops. Stand with your local farmer, ask about buying direct from them. Boycott businesses that don't believe in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. Or equal rights for women. Or unions. Join the first (of I assume many) Economic Blackouts to hit them where it hurts. Help your neighbor. Protect each other. Don't be silent in the face of obscene comments or bigotry. Don't let it become "the norm." Nazi salutes. Rape-rhetoric. NONE of it has a place in civilized and evolved society. Be proud of your empathy. Wear it as the badge of honor that it is. It connects us to each other, and the earth.
And if this post offended you, ruffled your feathers, or got your undies in a bunch? Let's both assume that we would not be a good fit to work together and call it a day, shall we?
